Learning from Joseph Part 2
Did you read Part 1 of what can be learned from Joseph? If not, click here.
Now, let’s take a look at something else we can learn from him. Let’s take a look at the genealogy of Joseph.
Abraham & Sarah
Isaac & Rebekah
Jacob & Rachel
Do you see that? Joseph comes directly from Abraham. And do you see who comes from Abraham? It’s Isaac! Just about everyone that has struggled with their fertility journey knows that Abraham & Sarah dealt with barrenness. God had promised them a child. But it took a long time for Him to deliver their son, over 100 years!!!
Now let’s think about this. Do you think that if Isaac was born right when Abraham and Sarah wanted him that all the plans and callings God had for all of their descendants would be fulfilled?
Absolutely not! If Isaac was born on their time table, then Joseph wouldn’t have been able to save His family at the time he was needed to save them. Because Joseph would have been born at least 75 years sooner than God planned. I don’t know about you, but that’s mind blowing to me.
So what can we learn from this? We can learn that just because we think it’s the right time doesn’t mean that it actually is. That God sees everything in our future and our children’s future and their children’s future. So He knows the right time for our children.
“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord. “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.” – Isaiah 55:8-9 NIV
I had a friend share recently that someone told her that often times in the fertility journey, we’re thinking that we want our baby. And we’re not thinking about what that baby needs or what’s best for them. If we were to rush our child being born, then they might not fulfill the calling and purpose God has for them, because they would be born too soon. Whoa! I don’t know about you, but I want my future son to fulfill all that God has planned, so I’m coming to the realization that I’m okay with His timing for my son to be born.
God really does have perfect timing. It may not be perfect in our eyes, but it’s perfect for our child and our lives because He knows so much more and holds the world in the palm of His hands. Let’s trust in His perfect timing for our lives and our future children’s lives.
